The Ya-Ya's and I attended the cutest baby shower last weekend for our dear friend Hex. It was Garden Tea Party themed and everyone was instructed to wear big crazy garden hats. We had Creamy Earl Grey tea and a lot of laughs; the food, games and decor were so sweet and fun!

They had this wonderful dip for the scones and fruit called "Berkshire Cream". I did a search for it online and can't find the recipe anywhere! It was heavy cream, confectioners sugar, whip cream and vanilla.... I think. Damn, why didn't I write the recipe down?!?!
Update: Not only did I not remember the recipe, I had the name wrong too. What we had was a mock version of Devonshire Cream:
Beat the cream cheese and sugar until fluffy. Gradually add the whipping cream and beat until thick. Cover and refrigerate overnight before serving.
Appreantly the real deal is...
Clotted cream is a thick yellow cream made by heating unpasteurized cow’s milk and then leaving it in shallow pans for several hours. During this time, the cream content rises to the surface and forms ‘clots’. Clotted cream purists prefer the milk to come from cows in the West Country, mainly from Devon and Cornwall.Tipnut
Best wishes for Hex and the new baby, Moyia!Share with me your shower ideas, recipes and games! Luna told me about a one that I thought was cleaver: hanging clothes lines up and pining the new baby clothes to the lines as gifts are opened so all the guests can go ohhh and ahhh and touch all the pretties afterwards.
What a gorgeous party! LOVE all the food -- and of course -- the perfect hats! Best wishes for the Mum!

Sounds like a fun party! I'd love to throw a tea party, but if I did it'd have to have an Alice in Wonderland theme. xD
ReplyDeleteThe (mock)Devonshire Cream sounds good. All the food looks great! Best wishes to the mom.
This is beautiful! I may have to try that cream too....
ReplyDeleteOoooh pretty. I've always wondered what clotted cream is. If you check your stats, you may think I'm stalking you. Well, I guess I kinda am. I can't get enough of your blog and the ones you have listed on your sidebar! Thank you for all the great ideas and fun.
ReplyDeleteThe hats are wonderful! A beautiful shower and outdoors too! All the best to the new mom. Looks like a great time had by all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for a baby shower! Love the hats and the food looks like it was divine. I've had clotted cream and I can vouch for it-- DEEEEE-LISH!
ReplyDeleteI love the theme! I've heard of the clothes line too. My friend is a belly dancer and she had another dancer perform a birth and family themed dance at her shower. All the women (except for little old tom boy me) got up and danced along. I'm trying to come up with some ideas of my own as the hubby and I keep trying for a baby ourselves. Best wishes and blessings to the new mom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful party!! Love the layout. Oh and I just love her new baby's name!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the theme of this party...and all the big hats! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd that food...YUM!

Lots of love to ya and the rest of the PC posse' Dawn! (Moira sends her love too, but you gotta wait a little longer to collect on that :p ).
