Some Like It Hot

Growing a salsa garden and making fresh salsa is a yearly tradition I love to keep. I know people always say fresh is better, but when it comes to fresh salsa there really is no competition. It is soooo much better than the store bought stuff. I'd love to give you a recipe, but honestly it's different every year depending on what I grow. I start with tomatoes (any kind) and then throw in hot peppers (any kind, and I leave the seeds in), green pepper, garlic, onion, cumin, cilantro, chives, salt and pepper.

This year I'm going to try and hang dry my extra hot peppers! Wish me luck!

  1. Until two years ago when I first tried salsa in a Mexican restaurant, I was afraid of strong tastes and especially of mexican dishes. now they are my favourites. You make me think of trying to grow and make it myself:)

  2. How long are you able to store the salsa for?

  3. Just a tip for hanging the peppers make sure you needle through the pepper and not the cap. Because once it dries the caps will fall off and the pepper won't be attached to the rista anymore. Good Luck! ;O)

  6. Jen, I'm not sure because we eat it so fast! I would guess normal rules apply..a couple days in the fridge, a couple months frozen and a couple years canned.

I love salsa. I think I might have to go eat some of my store bought junk. ;)

Looks like you have a big helper in your salsa making too. That's always good. :)

  8. I love, love, love homemade salsa, and am incredibly jealous! We used to have a homemade salsa connection, but now that we live in another country, no so much. I have yet to meet anyone here who cans like crazy and gives out salsa. Hopefully in Europe next year...
