Toys

I don't handle messes very well. I know, I know, not a very good Mommy quality. To cut back on the toddler mayhem, I keep smaller toys and sets organized into containers and stored in the cloest. I've taught Angelus that he can play with one box at a time. When he wants another box we have to put the first one back. I've heard these types of bounrdies are good for kids and really good for my sanity!

The containers that I like best are the Sterling brand, you can find them most everywhere. I don't usually like plastic, but in this case it's the best I've tried. Lots of sizes, durable, easy to clean, see through and made in the U.S.A.!

Another toy tip: Right before holidays like Easter, Christmas and his birthday I clean out his toys and give away anything he's outgrown or not into. Out with the old and in with the new. Now that he is getting older he can participate with this like a rite of passage. I'm not sure how he will handle giving up his older toys, if he is a rat pack like Daddy it may be tough!

  1. That is a great idea. We keep our toys stored in plastic bins as well, although they are on the floor of the closet. As long as the chaos stays in Gavin's bedroom, I'm fine with that. He's the one who has to pick up. ;)

We clean out a few times a year as well!

  2. I did this a bit when the kids were younger but I wish I'd been more committed to it. I woke up to a mess left by my 17 yr old this morning. Not a good way to start the day!

  6. Wonderful ideas! Just for the record, you would most likely be completely appalled with my house. [grin] I try to be organized...but I'm very bad at it!

  7. I think this will only instill a great quality in Angelus!

  8. I've found that it helps with the parting for my little one if he gets to help pick out what's being given away. My son hates it when I try to get rid of his things, but when he got to help he was (mostly) okay with it :)

  9. We do the same thing. Once a year, we do a thorough cleaning out of toy boxes, closets, dressers....anything with toys or clothes. Then every spring, we have a yard sale and the money we make goes into their piggy banks.

    It works well. :)

  10. Excellent idea! I also like the 10 minute clean up. For my 3 boys it's essential that I stay on them at all times. The one good thing is that my 14 year old son hates messes too!
